Microsoft Agent 365 features: what it includes and what you can do with it.
The twelve features of Microsoft Agent 365, according to Microsoft. To observe: the registry, the agent map, agent analytics and role-based monitoring. To control: agent onboarding, management of integrations and tools (MCP servers, plugins, skills and connectors), lifecycle management and access control with Microsoft Entra Agent ID. To protect: auditing and logging, data compliance and data security with Microsoft Purview, and threat protection with Microsoft Defender. It includes six things a company can do with them, what has been generally available since May 1, 2026, what is still in preview (sync with AWS Bedrock and Google Cloud, Windows 365 for Agents, registration of your own MCP servers) and what comes without a paid license in Microsoft 365 plans.
Twelve features to observe, control and protect your company's AI agents, what is available today, what is still in preview and what comes without a paid license.

Los tres pilares de Microsoft Agent 365, uno tras otro. Observar: registro, mapa y análisis de todos sus agentes. Controlar: identidad, patrocinador y políticas para cada uno. Proteger: purview y defender sobre lo que hacen los agentes.
Observe: which agents do you have and what do they do?
Four features to know which agents work in your company, with whom and with what data.
- Registry — A single inventory with agents that have an Entra identity, the ones people register and the ones from the Teams store. Unauthorized agents are quarantined.
- Agent map — Links each agent to the people who use it and the resources it reaches: sites, mailboxes and MCP servers.
- Agent analytics — Usage and performance of each agent, to know which ones are useful and which ones are not needed.
- Role-based monitoring — Each administrator sees their own area: Entra, Purview, Defender and Microsoft 365 admins have their own views.
Control: who is accountable for each agent?
Four features so that every agent has an identity, an owner, approved tools and a review date.
- Agent onboarding — Each agent comes in with its identity in Microsoft Entra Agent ID and a sponsor. Copilot Studio agents receive it when they are created.
- Integration management — Which tools agents can use (MCP servers, plugins, skills and connectors), across the entire tenant.
- Lifecycle — Rules to onboard, review and retire agents, so none is left running without an owner.
- Access control — Conditional and risk-based access with Entra, policy templates and blocking of compromised agents.
Protect: what happens to the data they touch?
Four features that extend Microsoft Purview and Microsoft Defender protection to agents.
- Auditing and logging — What each agent does is recorded in the Microsoft Purview audit log, with eDiscovery to search it.
- Data compliance — Purview retention, Insider Risk and DSPM for AI applied to agent activity.
- Data security — The same sensitivity labels and data loss prevention rules that already protect your company's files.
- Threat protection — Microsoft Defender detects suspicious activity, blocks tool invocation and fixes misconfigurations.
What can you do with Microsoft Agent 365?
Six situations any company with agents faces, and the feature that solves each one.
- Find shadow agents — Defender syncs the unregistered agents running on devices, and the registry shows them alongside the rest. Unauthorized agents are quarantined.
- Know which agents are useful — Agent analytics show the usage and performance of each one, and each area sees its own report.
- No agent left without an owner — Each agent has a sponsor and lifecycle rules: when its owner changes, the agent is reviewed, reassigned or retired.
- Decide which tools they use — The MCP servers, plugins, skills and connectors agents can use are controlled across the entire tenant, including Microsoft's own.
- Block a compromised agent — Entra applies risk-based access and blocks the compromised agent; Defender cuts off the invocation of suspicious tools.
- Respond to an audit — Agent activity goes into Purview auditing, retention and eDiscovery, just like any person's.
Which platforms and agents does it work with?
Agents published through Microsoft 365 channels and registered with Microsoft Entra Agent ID appear in the registry automatically. The rest are added with additional steps.
- Copilot Studio — Each agent receives its identity when created, with its creator as sponsor.
- Microsoft Foundry — Agents built in Foundry are registered and governed from the same place.
- Agent Framework and Agent 365 SDK — Microsoft's ways for a custom-built agent to join the registry.
- Teams store — Agents installed from the Teams store appear in the inventory.
- Third-party agents — Published integrations from Box, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Miro, n8n, Zendesk and Zoho, among others. Adobe and Nvidia integrations are coming soon.
- MCP servers — Microsoft's own and, in preview, your own, which are registered with the Agent 365 CLI and approved by an administrator.
